Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation
and Corporate Philanthropy
Our corporate responsibility
Bristol-Myers Squibb is widely recognised for
excellence in providing some of the world's most
important medicines to patients. At the same
time, we are also an acknowledged leader in
corporate philanthropy and sustainability.
Too often patients worldwide face barriers to
healthcare and certain populations particularly
the urban and rural poor, women, racial and
ethnic minorities and marginalised people
experience worse health outcomes.
The Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation seeks to
address these health disparities. It has targeted
four diseases and regions. They are:
- HIV/AIDS in Africa
- hepatitis in Asia
- cancer in central and Eastern Europe
- serious mental illness in the US.
A decade of hope
Last year marked the 10th anniversary of Bristol-
Myers Squibb's $150 million SECURE THE FUTURE
programme. Since 1999, it has funded more than
240 projects in 19 African countries, integrating
clinic-based medical care with community-based
health education and supportive care.
The Foundation's groundbreaking work in Africa has
provided new insights, models and tools to address
major healthcare challenges. We are now drawing on
these lessons in the battle against hepatitis in Asia.
Since 2002, BMS has provided grants worth
$3 million to projects in China already benefiting
more than 700,000 people as well as $1.25 million
to projects in India and $450,000 in Japan.
Sustaining our world
Our transformation to a BioPharma leader includes a
stronger alignment with environmentally friendly and
sustainable business practices. BMS House, our
modern, state-of-the-art head office in Uxbridge, is
a 21st century 'green' building. In addition to energy
savings and environmental benefits, green buildings
also provide a satisfying work environment.
