Cancer
One in three people in the UK will
be diagnosed with cancer.
Diabetes
There are over 2.5 million people
with diabetes in the UK; 150,000
are diagnosed every year. `
Diabetes can shorten life
expectancy and it is the leading
cause of blindness. We have one
product on the market and a
promising new compound in `
late-stage development.
HIV and AIDS
Since the 1980s, over 97,400
cases of HIV infection have been
reported in the UK but thanks to
better treatments, AIDS-related
deaths have rapidly fallen since
1995. We are the second-largest
supplier of treatments for HIV and
AIDS in the UK with three products
in use.
Atherothrombosis
Atherothrombosis is a process
leading to the formation of blood
clots in the arteries; the majority
of all heart attacks and strokes are
caused by blood clots. We already
have a major product available to
patients in this area and there is
currently one in Phase III clinical
trials.
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic
and debilitating form of arthritis
that affects more than 350,000
Britons, reducing quality of life
and life expectancy.
Psychiatric
disorders
About 1 in 100 people will develop
schizophrenia one of the most
serious psychotic disorders. BMS
has an important treatment for
schizophrenia and bipolar disorder
in its portfolio.
Other areas
Bristol-Myers Squibb also works in
the area of hepatitis, obesity,
Alzheimer’s disease/dementia and
solid organ transplant rejection.
Overall, numerous research
programmes and compounds
representing every level of
development are advancing
through our pipeline.
